The Third Space Experience is a blog and portfolio site exploring high dimensionality in entities in the world. Third Space Theory (not to be confused with the third place popularized by Starbucks founder Howard Schultz) concerns the intersectional nature of human identity and our inevitable — but often unseen — existence as complex, hybrid creatures that defy individual identity labels. Ursula Le Guin discussed the Third Space as a place occupied by anthropologists and ethnographers whose goal was to bridge between their own culture and that of the one they studied. All of us exist between concepts, in a third space that deserves to be seen and honored.

In a world that is more unavoidably digital than ever, our third spaces are hard to see. Digital existence today requires us to instantiate our ideas and give them discrete, static manifestations. This blog explores efforts to see beyond this imposed structure, and to shape our technologies and interactions with each other in a way that creates space for nuance and complexity. This is a place on the internet that creates space for it’s complicated.

P.S.: If you think you knew me by another name, you’re probably right.
